Euro 2012 – The Strangest Channel Promo Ever

It can often be a revelation to discover how we are seen by others and if you are planning to watch the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament then this may well raise an eyebrow or two. Over 60 years since the last major European war and Now TV, a Chinese language a multi-channel digital satellite TV and IPTV channel service based in Hong Kong have chosen this strange work as their promo for the tournament.

Yes, that really is Big Ben crashing down and being bombed. Yes that really is the Eiffel Tower falling to the ground, Rome’s Colosseum in flames – and yes, they really are soldiers firing live rounds on the pitch, not to mention helicopters! Plus the World War II imagery of countries invading Poland and the Ukraine is a little weird, to say the least.

The music is something of a mash up to, with Fantaisie by Chopin standing shoulder to shoulder with music from the Red Army Choir.

Scratch your head and as the Americans say (well, why not bring them in to it too?!) – go figure! This is truly one of the most bizarre takes on a soccer tournament we have ever seen at World in Sport!

However – do we have anyone out there who can translate the lyrics? Maybe it is saying that after a horrible twentieth century Europe is putting all that behind them and now football is what is used to settle scores (as it were!) between the nations…

Plus – we are assuming that the guys featured are the Now TV presenters..? Answers on a postcard please – or in the comment section below!
