By Alex Osborne: The 2013 McCoy’s Premier League Darts will feature 10 players as opposed to the usual 8; this is due to a format change.
The 10 players will all play each other once in best of 12 leg matches over the first 9 weeks of the tournament with the bottom 2 players in the League Table after the first 9 weeks being relegated. The remaining 8 players will then face each other once again over the remaining 5 weeks of the tournament with the top 4 qualifying for the Play-Offs at the O2 Arena in London on May 16th.
The 16-time World Champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor is the only of the 10 participants to have played in every Premier League so far with 5-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld 1 behind having played in 8 of the 9 Premier League’s.
Two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis and 2009 Premier League Champion James Wade are making their 6th appearance in the Premier League, Wade’s 6th consecutively.
Last years runner-up, Simon Whitlock will make his 4th appearance and the 2011 Champion Gary Anderson will make his 3rd. ‘The Hammer’ Andy Hamilton returns to the Premier League after a hugely successful debut in 2012 while Michael van Gerwen, Wes Newton and Robert Thornton will make their debuts in the tournament.
The 2013 McCoy’s Premier League Darts will begin in Belfast on February 7th 2013.
