The Nottingham fighter had hoped that the bout could be staged at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground or at Notts County’s Meadow Lane.
The O2 Arena holds a 20,000 capacity and will take place just over three years since the pair last fought in which Kessler won a unanimous decision in Herning, Denmark.
Carl Froch will be hoping to avenge his defeat to the Dane.
Since that fight, Froch has regained and the lost the WBC strap which Kessler won that night.
Froch has recently become IBF champion, while Kessler has had a battle with career-threatening injuries while picking up the WBA strap.
Three-time super-middleweight champion Froch claimed his IBF title by a brutal knockout against Canada’s Lucian Bute in May, while Kessler stopped Northern Irishman Brian Magee inside three rounds in December.
“I think it’s the biggest feather in my cap as a promoter, bringing a fight like this to the UK,” promoter Eddie Hearn said. “I’m proud to have done it and I’m delighted for Carl, because he deserves it.
“He can now avenge that loss and leave a real legacy for British boxing because I believe he’s one of the all-time greats and a win against Kessler will put him right up there.”
A victory for either man will setup a rematch with Andre Ward, to whom both suffered loses against the American.
