The frustration had been piling up for Kevin Harvick after winning the second race of the second of the year. In the past five weeks he had endured a bunch of mishaps and poor finishes. Darlington was a great turnaround for him however, pretty much dominating the Bojangeles Southern 500 leading 238 of 374 laps.
It was looking as though Harvick would cruise to the victory until with ten laps left, Logano’s car was smoking causing a late lap caution.
On the second of two green white checkered restarts Harvick pushed his car ahead of leader Earnhardt Jr to grab the top spot holding onto it for his second victory of the year,he was followed by Earnhardt, Johnson, Kenseth and Biffle rounding out the top five.
“We had to overcome a lot the last few weeks but had really good cars,”Harvick said.
Earnhardt Jr made up for last week having run into the grass and wrecking out,he ended up finishing 43rd.
Kurt Busch was looking like he’d locked down a top 10 finish that was until Clint Bowyer hit him from behind causing Busch to run into the wall, after the first of the two green white checkers.
This victory was the third of the year for Stewart Haas Racing which is most by any owner this year.
