The Manchester City player insists that the England international side should be challenging for honours with the standard of the Premier League.

“I’ve been here almost seven years now and it’s still hard for me to understand why England have not progressed on the international stage. The Premier League is one of the best and toughest in the world – to survive and succeed you must have wonderful skill, speed and fitness.

Arsene Wenger: England Talk Won't Stop

Arsene Wenger believes that everybody should be able to offer their opinion on who should be the next England boss, the Premier League have tried to silence the managers after it had been revealed by Sir Alex Ferguson that he had effectively been gagged after voicing his opinion on who should replace Fabio Capello as the new England boss.

A number of managers have all said they would like to see Redknapp succeed the Italian and guide the team into the Euro 2012 tournament this summer, while Wenger has said he hasn’t seen the letter from the Premier League reminding clubs of the manager’s charter, which prevents public comment about rivals’ players or bosses.

Arsene Wenger insists that everybody should be free to talk about the England vacancy, the Frenchman also suggests that he expects the debate to continue until the Football Association name a permanent manager for England which looks likely that the FA would be a making a decision at the end of the season.

“I believe everybody is free to talk about the England job,” said Wenger.

“In fact I spoke many times about it so I have done my sins.

“It is inevitable that if you have nobody in place, the press will be worried and ask questions about it.”
