By Farhan Daw: Roy Hodgson and his England team can now rest easy after securing qualification for next year’s World Cup in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. After a 2-0 win over Poland, England recorded their fifth consecutive appearance in the World Cup and will join the likes of Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland and Argentina as qualified nations. Qualification in Africa and South America (with the exception of Brazil, Argentina and Colombia) have yet to be concluded.
The victory was on the back of a 4-1 win over Montenegro and England manager Roy Hodgson expressed his delight and relief after his side saw off Poland at Wembley with goals from Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard.
“I died 1,000 deaths every time they crossed the halfway line. If you want to win the lottery, buy a lottery ticket. We have our ticket. I have great trust in my players that they will not let us down. We have got a chance. It’s job done. We’re looking forward to going to Brazil, something the whole nation wants and backs us over.”
