It’s the fight that sports fans are waiting to witness. The prospect of a fight between Floyd ‘money’ Mayweather and the cocky Irishman in Conor McGregor is something that has most sports fans interested. There have been talks of this bout for roughly a year now, so to see it come to fruition is exactly what needs to happen.
In December last year, Conor McGregor was granted his boxing licence. Due to this, the rumours about the possibility of a fight intensified, only for more talk to come of it. That’s what both of these fighters have in common. They are both entertainments and they can both play the side of the villain so well. But now, it’s time for the talk to stop and the training to start.
“Floyd’s coming out of retirement and hasn’t fought in a a little bit. Conor has that big left hand, he’s got power.” – UFC middleweight fighter Michael BispingÂ
“For Conor McGregor, I’m coming out of retirement just to fight Conor McGregor. I don’t want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC. Sign the paper with the UFC, so you can fight me in June. Simple and plain, let’s fight in June.” – Flyoyd MayweatherÂ
It’s an interesting prospect, but the reality is that it would be fairly one sided. One of it not the strongest facet of Conor McGregor’s UFC game, is his kicking game. This is something that he obviously can’t do in a boxing ring. Floyd is a professional boxer, or at least was. He was the best of the best, unmatched by any of his opponents. His 49-0 career record shows that he is no easy beat, and he is versing guys who have boxed their whole lives.
Despite Floyd not training for a while, his ability will still be there. He won’t be as good as he was, but he won’t be far off. It’s difficult to say as i admire both fighters but, this fight could be fairly one sided. The thing about boxing though, is that all it takes is one punch. One lucky punch can end a fight, and that is all Conor needs. It isn’t as if McGregor isn’t an athlete, he is, and a top one at that. His boxing game in the UFC is still something to be feared, but can he match a real boxer?
Both fighters can talk, but both also love their money. On the 13th of March 201
7, reports that Dana White (UFC President) has offered both Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather approximately $25 million (USD). This is obviously a huge payout, so why doesn’t the fight happen?
The fight may actually be further along than what we think. Reports from FloCombat.com indicate that the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has been booked for a fight between the two athletes. If this is true, the bout is due to occur on June 10th.
“Sources close to FloCombat have confirmed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has put the June 10 date on hold for the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.”Â
The fight hasn’t officially been confirmed, so at the moment it remains a rumour. But after such a long time of waiting for this fight, it finally feels as if the fight may be becoming a reality. More on the topic will hopefully be revealed sooner rather than later.
“Love him or hate him (McGregor) he’s done a tremendous job in the UFC and if he was to take out perhaps one of the greatest boxers who ever lived, that would be something, that would be incredible and you can’t deny it.”Â
