Fernando Alonso topped the table in Canada after FP1 with a 1:17.238, teammate Raikkonen couldn’t get higher than 9 due to an engine problem.
Both the Mercedes came just behind Alonso in 2nd and 3th, with Hamilton in front of Rosberg with a gap of +0.016 and +0.146 respectively.
Being a part street circuit, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was very green at the start of the session, combined with the low downforce nature of this track, there were lots of slides and lock-ups. However, there were no real incidents.
The top 10 is completed by Vettel, Bottas (whose teammate Felipe Massa is down in 17th due to an ERS problem on his carp), Ricciardo, Button, Magnussen, Raikkonen and Vergne.
As always, times in Free Practices (especially FP1) don’t tell much about the result on Sunday, so there are bound to be a few changes in the order with some cars improving and others falling back.
