Amir Khan has accepted defeat in his pursuit of a securing a fight against Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao. After Khan upped his game last time out against Devon Alexander, the British fighter thought he had done enough to get a shot at Floyd Mayweather.
However, Mayweather and Pacquiao look set to be announcing a super-fight against each other for May 2nd.
This fight has yet to be confirmed. Yet with Khan now looking in a different direction for an opponent it seems an announcement could be imminent regarding the Mayweather/Pacquiao super-fight.
As a fight fan, Khan himself admits that he would like to the two fighters go at it. He said: “I think they are hopefully fighting each other in May. I think I probably have missed that chance of fighting Floyd or Manny,”
“I was speaking to both parties. It was going to happen. But because I’m a huge boxing fan myself I can’t really argue. It’s a fight that everyone has been waiting for. I want to see it myself as well.”
Amir Khan will still be looking to fight in May and a few names have been put to him. Fighters such as Miguel Cotto and Tim Bradley spring to mind. An all-British clash with Kell Brook could also be in the offing.
Kell Brook makes his first title defence of his IBF welterweight title against Canadian Jo Jo Dan on March 28. Due to the schedule of this fight, it makes a meet with Khan unlikely to happen as Khan hopes to be fighting in May which would leave Brook little time to train for the fight.
“Kell is fighting in March, and I want to be back in the ring in May. The turnaround for him will be quite difficult,” said Khan.
“There’s a few other names…there was talk of Miguel Cotto and maybe getting that fight done. There’s Tim Bradley – there’s some huge names in the 147 division.
“We are just taking our time at the moment. We are all waiting for that (Mayweather v Pacquiao) announcement.
“Anything can happen. Mayweather may not announce that he’s fighting Pacquiao. It could be myself.
We have to wait for that announcement and then see where we go.”
While Khan accepts the unlikelihood of facing Mayweather or Pacquiao for now, he isn’t ruling out a potential fight against either of those two in future.

He added: “Definitely – it’s put me in a great position, that great performance in my last fight against Devon Alexander,” he said.
“For the winner or the loser, it would be a massive fight. Manny and Mayweather are huge names in boxing. I think I am on their radar.”
