Can Spurs be the team to stop Guardiola’s City as crunch weekend looms in Premier league.

Tottenham will be looking to become the first team since Everton on August 21st to claim anything from a meeting with Manchester City this season. The two sides meet at the Etihad on Saturday evening in a 5:30 kick off. Guardiola’s side have been in devastating form so far this season which has seen them open up a huge 11 point gap over second placed Manchester United.

City’s current winning run which includes a victory at Old Trafford stands at an unbelievable 15 games. Despite this there are some who believe that Spurs could just be the side to halt this scintillating City charge. Mauricio Pochettino’s team have at times this season looked like a shadow of the side who finished second so comfortably last year. The majority of their problems have come at home since their move to Wembley from White Hart lane. They have already dropped nine league points there but away from home they look a much better and dangerous side.

On paper both sides look strong and there will be a number of key battles on Saturday evening that will determine the result. Harry Kane against either Gabriel Jesus or Sergio Aguero will be one of these, the Spurs forward is as ever in good goal scoring touch and will be key to Tottenham’s game plan. However both Jesus and Aguero have been consistently finding the net in City’s incredible record breaking run and Guardiola will be confident that his two strikers can match Kane’s impact.

Despite this midfield is arguably where the most crucial one on one battles will occur. For Tottenham Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Heung Min Son will be the key men while City will be looking to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane to be their main threats. The form that City’s major players have shown this season has been magnificent and if this continues this weekend it is hard to see Tottenham coming away with a positive result. However they will be hopeful that if the likes of Alli, Eriksen and Son are at the top of their games then they can match City’s supreme midfield.

Mauricio Pochettino’s record as Spurs manager against fellow top six clubs is poor especially on the road. He has won only one of 17 matches he has played against them in charge and if his side are to claim a league title at any point that record has to drastically improve. On that basis it is hard to see a Spurs result on Saturday but with the quality in their squad that record surely has to improve at some point and it could start this weekend.
