Claressa Shields vs Marie Eve Dicaire: Biggest Fight in Female Boxing History?
Claressa Shields has accomplished so much in just 10 fights and in her 11th she could make boxing history by becoming the first-ever 4-belt undisputed champion at two weights which would definitely further her case as P4P #1.
Shields won the unified WBC and IBF Titles in just her fourth fight against Nikki Adler (17-0). In April 2019 she headlined her first-ever card which was live on Showtime and for the undisputed middleweight titles. It was in front of a large crowd in Atlantic City and only the second ever Female fight to headline a card on a major TV channel in the US which showed the growth of female boxing.
In 2021, Shields leads the advance of female boxing again as she headlines the first-ever Female PPV fight. Although, the price point is significantly less than the male equivalent it shows the significant uprising of female boxing.
Marie Eve Dicaire (17-0) is relatively unknown in comparison and a large underdog going into this fight. She has only ever boxed out of her native Canada. Her calibre of opposition has also been of much lower quality but she is the proven #2 at 154-Pounds. Dicaire has made 4 defences since winning the belt in 2018.
Dicare at 34 years of age is past her prime and has looked far from spectacular in some of her fights, most notably her tight contest with Chris Namus and journeyman Marisa Gabriela Nunez. Additionally, she has zero knockouts and boxed as low as super-lightweight while Shields has boxed as heavy as super-middleweight which suggest she will have a big size disadvantage on the night.
Dicaire is a huge underdog going in and is not expected to be very competitive with the GWOAT but there are very few who would be. One of those would be WBO Middleweight Champion Savannah Marshall who beat Shields in the amateurs and many boxing experts would back her to win a rematch in the pros.
However, after Shields signing with a professional MMA company we are uncertain about her future in boxing. Although Shields has declared that she plans to continue doing both boxing and MMA. She is training for a Mixed martial Arts debut sometime in 2021.
