Dagger! Wall comes up big in Wizards win over Knicks

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Progress. The Washington Wizards hung on late and defeated the New York Knicks 110-107 at Madison Square Garden. The first dagger of the season occured thanks to a late three from John Wall and the Wizards have won back-to-back games.

A lot of things went right for Washington tonight. Otto Porter Jr. brought the defensive intensity like he should be. Bradley Beal made the extra pass. Tomas Satoransky continued to be the passing artist that he is. Markieff Morris got to his spots and of course, John Wall hit the dagger.

All in all, that progress made from those players led to a rocky, griity 110-107 win over the hungry Knicks.  Wall (18 points, 15 assists) and Beal (27 points, 7 assists) were crucial to the win despite their awful shooting. Kelly Oubre Jr. (21 points) and Morris (18 points, 7 rebounds) also played big roles.John Wall sank the dagger in Washington's road win on Monday

Tone-setters were huge tonight

There are certain players on the Wizards who are instrumental in wins. While Wall and Beal are the root of team success and failure, it is guys like Otto Porter Jr. and Tomas Satoransky that control how good or bad this team does.

When those two are playing well, it leads to team success. When those two are off, it leads to total disaster. The defense is a lot better which leads to easy transition buckets. Otto’s three steals and three blocks were huge in tonight’s win.

Despite only having three points, three assists and two rebounds, Satoransky made a huge impact tonight. He had a +15 and made the extra pass that helped force a big run from the Wizards in the third quarter. When he and Porter can set the tone with their effort, everything gets a whole lot easier for Washington.

Kelly Oubre Jr. had an assist

Oubre has not had an assist over the last four games as he’s been more concerned with his shots but tonight was different. Oubre did a better job of balancing his shooting possessions with the occasional ball movement. That is easy to see when a player has 21 points on eight-of-11 shooting. However, he also added five rebounds and three blocks which led to Wizards fans witnessing Oubre’s best performance this season.

While he did not have the best game, John Wall was still able to come up huge late in the game. Late in the fourth quarter, John Wall sank a three which was the dagger and stopped any comeback the Knicks could have possibly had. It is looking good for the Wizards right now but they have to keep this up to start a comeback.

America’s Largest Amateur League Shines in Baseball’s “Lost Season”

2020 will forever be remembered as baseball’s lost season. The sport was shattered due to the COVID-19 pandemic virus outbreak. Baseball fans were out of luck this summer as they were entirely restricted from attending any professional or semi-pro live games. Watching on television or live stream wasn’t much better. Most of the MLB season was cancelled including the pre-season, the much anticipated Iowa Field of Dreams game, Puerto Rico series, London Series and All...

IPL: Mumbai Indians Lose Season Opener

Mumbai Indians lost an Indian Premier League (IPL) opener for the 8th successive year following a 5-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings. Having lost the first game of the season in the last 7 years, Mumbai might have thought this was their time, as they were on a 5-game winning run against CSK. However, ex Mumbai Indians player Ambati Rayudu and South African superstars Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi ensured that it didn’t...

When Did Formula One Begin?

If you ask virtually anyone the world over a simple question – “What is Formula One” they will probably get the answer correct.  It’s a car race!  Even though that might be a very simple reply (a better answer would be it’s the highest class of international single-seater auto-racing!) there is another question that will probably stump them.  That question is “When did Formula One begin?”. In order to answer the question properly we need...

The Cleveland Browns Are Looking Up

The Cleveland Browns have a team that had a ton of questions this year. They came into the game against the Bengals unsure of how they were going to get their offense going. While the Bengals aren't at all a good defense, it's still hard to play those divisional games and win. The AFC North is known for brutally cold weather that makes it nearly impossible to stay sharp, yet they were sharp offensively....

The Case For Rocky Marciano

You wouldn't think, not even for a second, that you would have to defend a world champion boxer who retired with an unblemished record of 49-0 (43 KO's), but if it's Rocky Marciano we're talking about then yep, he needs to be defended. It's ridiculous, but true. Marciano seems to have as many naysayers as he does fans. "He was too small", "He never fought anybody in their prime", "He'd get killed today"; etc....
