Everton have confirmed the signing of former three time Champions League winner Samuel Eto’o on a two-year contract. The 33-year-old was a free agent after leaving Chelsea and will link up with former Chelsea colleague Romelu Lukaku and Christian Atsu at Goodison Park.
Rivals Liverpool showed an interest in Eto’o after their move for Loic Remy collapsed but decided to peruse Mario Balotelli instead, paving the way for Eto’o to join the blue half of Mersyside.
Eto’o is Everton’s sixth signing this season and is eager to begin his career under Roberto Martinez.
“I have been very impressed by the style of play Everton adopt. I could see straight away that at this club I will have the opportunity to play football. I had the chance to speak with the manager over the last few days and we agreed that this was what we would do.
“I was impressed with his enthusiasm but also by the knowledge of football that Roberto Martinez carries, his vision of football and how he reads football. I still think I can learn a great deal from him here.”
Although past his peak, the signing of Eto’o is a major coup for Everton Football club. He has won 15 trophies during his career including the Champions League on three occasions, three League titles and three domestic cups and will be a key member of the Everton squad this season.
