Jake Paul vs Ben Askren is now official after the former UFC Fighter has now accepted a fight with the YouTube Sensation over 8-rounds. This will mark Jake Paul’s third fight in 16 months and he has shown that he is dedicated to improving his boxing skills. However, this time he takes on a real fighter and a very tough test for Paul due to his little experience in professional combat sports.
The Jake Paul vs Ben Askren fight will be streamed live on Triller PPV which hosted the Mike Tyson Roy Jones Fight last year where Paul got a second-round knockout against NBA Star Nate Robinson on the undercard. The Triller ‘Fight Club’ is a new boxing platform formed by snoop dog after the overwhelming success of the first event on thriller which is reported to have drawn upwards of 1.6m PPV Buys.
The Jake Paul vs Ben Askren event will feature three other undercard fights and several musical performances, and special commentators. The price point of this PPV has not been announced yet but is expected to be significantly less due to the age of Paul’s audience and the success of Tyson-Jones at a lower price.
Jake Paul vs Ben Askren: Genius or Madness?
Jake Paul first connected to the boxing scene when he would take on YouTuber Deji on the KSI-Logan Paul 1 Undercard. Paul produced a 5th round TKO on that occasion and arguably the best performance out of any fighter on that night. Despite this, he was underrated in the ‘YouTube boxing community’ and still had to prove himself.
As a result of the success of the KSI-Logan Paul PPV Rematch, Jake Paul followed and turned professional to beat his ‘ultimate test’ and stepping stone to KSI AnEsonGib. Jake Paul obliterated Gib in under a round showing devastating power. He aimed for a mega-fight with KSI but due to KSI having other interests at the moment he continued to box against available opposition.
This opportunity came on the Tyson-Jones undercard where he took on an athlete for the first time, Knocking out complete novice Nate Robinson. With Jake Paul vs Ben Askren, Paul now enters a completely different level as for the first time in his life he takes on a professional fighter. It’s not Connor McGregor but it’s still a UFC Fighter; Is this a step too far for Jake Paul?
Ben Askren has never had a professional boxing match but is a very accomplished MMA Fighter. He is a former Bellator and ONE Welterweight Champion as well as having competed in the prestigious UFC. Askren is a specialist Grappler which makes Jake Paul vs Ben Askren a little more competitive as Askren is not an expert striker.
Askren was 18-0 entering the UFC in an unbeaten run which included world championships in two different platforms at Welterweight and seven successful title defences. He retired in MMA in 2019 but after a back-and-forth with Jake Paul on Social Media, Askren has now accepted a clash with the YouTuber and wows to beat the ‘coward’ Paul in impressive fashion.
With the tremendous fighting pedigree of Askren, surely this is a step too far for Jake Paul? Paul has only had two professional boxing matches against undersized and complete novice opposition while Askren has competed in MMA for over a decade and is the same size physically as Paul. Askren should be able to comfortably beat and stop the YouTuber.
If Paul does manage to win it will be an incredible achievement to beat a person who has dedicated his entire life to fighting even if it is a different sport.
