McComb vs Gwynne: Preview of the New February 19 MTK Fight Night

Due to Several postponements, McComb vs Gwynne is the new headliner for the February 19 MTK Global Fight Night which will be Live and Free on IFL TV worldwide and on ESPN+ in the US in association with Top Rank. McComb vs Gwynne will take place at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Lancashire with no fans present.

McComb vs Gwynne was originally meant to be chief support to Guerfi McGregor in Dubai on February 6 but travel issues prevented that show from taking place. Liam Walsh has unfortunately tested positive for covid-19 which means McComb vs Gwynne now headlines the February 19 MTK show instead.

Darren Tetley takes on Samuel Antwi for the vacant English Welterweight title as chief support. On the McComb vs Gwynne undercard, DP Carr defends his Southern Area Super Featherweight Title against fellow undefeated prospect Dean Dodge. Carr vs Dodge is also an Eliminator for the English 130-pound title currently vacant, but due to be contested by Liam Dillon and Dennis Wahome.

The Undefeated Northern-Irish MTK Prospect Sean McComb takes his first big step-up against two-time British title challenger and Welsh Champion Gavin Gwynne for the vacant Commonwealth Lightweight title. This title was recently vacated by Joe Cordina after his move down to Super-Featherweight.

Sean McComb (11-0) made his return being closed doors against Siar Ozgul in August with a 10-round unanimous decision victory. McComb now looks to challenge himself against previously tested and very tough Gavin Gwynne on Saturday night. Due to unfortunate postponements, McComb gets an amazing opportunity to headline an #MTKFightNight.

Gavin Gwynne (12-2) fought James Tennyson for the vacant British title on Matchroom Fight Camp Week 1 losing by a sixth-round knockout. He now looks to make his third attempt at a domestic title and although is an underdog is a brave and spirited fighter and will certainly look to test the unbeaten McComb.

A win here for McComb could set him up for big clashes domestically. With Tennyson looking to a world title eliminator, the British lightweight title has become vacant and the board have now approved Liam Walsh vs Paul Hyland Jr for the vacant belt. With that being on an MTK show, it is very likely we see McComb unify against the winner of the vacant title in 2021.

Tetley vs Antwi: English Welterweight Title

The Chief Support to McComb vs Gwynne is an intriguing matchup between Darren Tetley (20-1) and Samuel Antwi (12-1) for the English Welterweight Title recently vacated by Ekow Essuman. Essuman is expected to challenge Chris Jenkins for the British and Commonwealth titles next, so he has vacated the English as a result.

Both have just the one defeat, Tetley suffered it in his last fight on an MTK Show in 2020 where he floored twice against Liam Taylor. Antwi lost to Emmany Kalombo back in 2018 by second-round TKO. Antwi has the better victories of the pair with back to back wins against Jez Smith (11-0) and Siar Ogzul to defend his southern area championship.

Despite this, Tetley goes in as a slight favourite due to his recent performance on an MTK show. however, this is a 50/50 contest where a win either way wouldn’t be at all surprising. MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton said: “Tetley and Antwi are both known for their exciting styles and I’m expecting a tremendous battle.”
