Another off-field incident has hit the England cricket team on their tour of Australia. Batsman Ben Duckett who was due to play against an Australia XI in an Ashes tour game was dropped after he poured a drink over bowler James Anderson in a Perth bar. The incident which happened on Thursday night occurred when Duckett was out with members of both the lions and senior squad. It is known that none of the players who were at the Perth bar were under a curfew, however the incident occurred the first night after the players previous curfews were lifted. This is something that has reportedly left the management furious.

Duckett has since been handed a hefty fine and received a final written warning about his future conduct as an England player. This isn’t the first disciplinary measure England have had to deal with on this tour. Wicket keeper Jonny Bairstow’s apparent headbutt on Australian opener Cameron Bancroft is still hanging over the team as is the outcome of the Police investigation into the arrest of Ben Stokes before the tour began.

The latest incident involving the team’s off the field incident has left coach Trevor Bayliss and director of cricket Andrew Strauss fuming. When asked about the Duckett incident Bayliss said that he was “fed up” of having to deal with off field matters and that he might “review who is in the team”. It is thought that Strauss is the man most irritated by this latest incident as he has had to explain the team’s behaviour to the ECB.

The latest incident in a series of misdemeanors from the England camp has not gone unnoticed by Australia and Wicket Keeper Tim Paine has already said Australia will be reminding England of the Duckett incident on the field. “I’m sure someone will bring it up” said Paine “But whats happening in their camp off the field has no effect on the way were going about our cricket”.

Unfortunately for the side they have had no on-field relief from these issues. They currently trail 2-0 in the series having lost both test matches to date by considerably large margins. England have to win or at least avoid defeat in the third test at Perth to keep their chances of retaining the Ashes alive.
