The premier league is now arguably the best league in the world with the Champions League winner in Liverpool and the Europa League winner in Chelsea included in a league which boasts teams such as Manchester City who finished on an astonishing 98 points last season , and spurs who reached the Champions League final, which they narrowly lost to a good Liverpool side , without spending a single penny. So with that being said – who will come out on top this season?
I’m sure many Liverpool fans and the club themselves would like to have a go at answering that question after they finished one point behind Manchester City with 97 points all whilst balancing a magnificent Champions League campaign which saw them beat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate after they took the Spanish giants to Anfield and embarrassed them 4-0 without 2 of their deadly front three then went on to win the trophy in Madrid against Spurs. Moreover, the fact that Liverpool managed to balance the two competitions so well highlights their strength in depth as players such as Divock Origi often stepped off the bench to score dramatic winners against Everton and Newcastle. However the real question for the recent European champions will be whether or not they’ll be able to overturn that one point gap that cruelly prevented them from winning the league last season in what was none the less still a stunning campaign.
Following on now to the champions. A team that has won back to back titles which included a domestic treble and an overall tally of 198 points. Manchester City could go down as the best team in premier league history if they manage to win the league once again this season and with the likes of the ever improving Bernardo Silva who registered 27 goal contributions in all competitions last season it is fairly possible. However, with the club captain, Vincent Kompany, gone city may struggle to find a leader in the team when things are not going as planned. Kompany often scored decisive goals against local rivals Manchester United and most recently against Leicester . So with that being said, can Manchester City win their third premier league title or will they lack leadership in crucial moments without Vincent Kompany .
To conclude, both Manchester City and Liverpool look ready to battle it out for the top prize in English football with squads that include the likes of Sergio Aguero and Mohammed Salah who are managed by two of the worlds best managers in Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. This is no longer David vs Goliath but instead Goliath vs Goliath as two of the best teams in Europe battle it out. Who will come on top come May 2020?
