The Blackjack card game, popularly called Twenty-One, has been a favourite casino game for a long time now. With thrilling gameplay and simple rules, there’s a high chance for the players to strategize.

In fact, if you are a seasoned player who can count cards and mathematically play the perfect game, the chances of winning are in your favour. Even if you are a casual player who plays a fairly good game, the odds of winning are less in the casino’s favour, which makes this card game one of the most attractive not only in conventional casinos but also online casinos. If you are a beginner, you ought to be aware of the basic Blackjack rules. Read on to find out what these rules are.

The Objective of Blackjack

Before moving on to understand the rules of the game, it’s important to know the objective of playing blackjack online. The aim of the player is to beat the dealer’s hand by either of these:

  • Getting a total that surpasses the total of the dealer

  • Not crossing 21 points when the dealer does

The Basic Rules of Playing Blackjack

Listed below are the basic rules to keep in mind while playing Blackjack:

  • This card game begins with the players placing their bets.

  • The house dealer deals 2 cards to each player and two cards to himself (wherein one card is face down and the other card face down).

  • In this game, all cards count their face value. The count of picture cards is 10, while that of ace is either 11 or 1. For example, a hand with 4-3-8 sums to 16, while another having a Jack-4 sums to 14. Generally, it’s presumed that the value of ace is 11 unless doing so would make the total of your hand surpass 21, and in this case, the value of ace reverts to 1.

  • The suits of cards don’t have any meaning in this game. Any hand’s total is the total of the card values in hand.

  • It’s for the players to decide whether they wish to stand, hit, double-down, split or surrender.

  • The dealer gets his chance at last and he must either stand on 17 – 21 or hit on 16 or less.

  • When the dealer’s or player’s hand value surpasses the sum of 21, it’s called busting. For instance, if a player is dealt with a 10-8, drew another card which was a 7, the player busts as his hand sums to 25.

  • If the players’ hand sums to a count that is higher than the dealer’s hand, he wins. In other words, when the dealer’s hand value exceeds 21 (i.e. when he busts), the players have 21 or less.

Once you understand the basic rules of playing Blackjack online, all that it takes is skilled gameplay along with a little bit of luck. Now that you have got an idea of the fundamentals, continue your journey to becoming a skilled Blackjack player by learning the success strategies to increase your odds of winning.
