Top 20 P4P Boxers – July 2019

Top 20 P4P Boxers

Though it is a bit delayed, World in Sport has your latest P4P rankings for the month of July. A number of fighters on our list made appearances in the ring since our previous rankings came out. Gennady Golovkin stopped Steve Rolls in four rounds, IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington (who was dropped from the list last month but returns this time around) earned a split-decision victory over Kid Galahad in the UK, and heavyweight Tyson Fury knocked out Tom Schwarz in two rounds to remain undefeated. Also, future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao, 40, won a split-decision over Keith Thurman to become the oldest welterweight champion in history.

Golovkin remains at #6 on our list, Warrington slides in at #19, and Tyson Fury stays at #12. Pacquiao jumps up to #15 on the list just above where his opponent Thurman (who dropped from the rankings altogether) was at previously.

My list is based on a number of factors, ranked below by order of importance:

  • 1: Resume – Has he dominated his division? How has he performed against top competition?
  • 2: Ability – How special is he in the ring? Is he one-dimensional or well-rounded?
  • 3: Weight – Has he moved up in weight with success? Slight bias towards the more competitive divisions.
  • 4: Potential – Is the fighter on the decline, or can he get even better?
  • 5: Activity – Fighter must have fought at least once within the past year.

Because of the late post, there are no upcoming fights with pound-for-pound implications between now and our next rankings update.

Comparing fighters across different weight classes is mostly subjective, and everybody has their own opinion. Comment below with who you think deserves to be on the list.
