Tottenham Hotspur’s outstanding 2-1 victory over Aston Villa has boosted their hopes of retaining their Premier League status for next season.

First-half goals from Richarlison and Conor Gallagher ensured the North London side secured three crucial points.

It was a typical Roberto De Zerbi team performance, which included energy, grit, and tenacity.

Unai Emery’s team were made to look average by Spurs’ aggressive press. You could also argue that Villa had half an eye on Thursday’s Europa League semi.

You could even argue that they could have made it a more emphatic victory with an XG of 0.99, which they had in the first half.

And after the gritty 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spurs fans may argue ‘Where has this been all season?”

For a game like this, you need players with spirit, grit and tenacity, and the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid Midfielder optimised this throughout the game.

Not only did he score the opening goal, but he also made the most tackles and covered the most distance, a typical Gallagher performance.

After the game, the Spurs Boss gave his team huge praise and was humble in explaining his team’s performance.

“I love playing football. Especially if you have these players in the squad, my job is to help them, to put them in the right condition to play, to show what they are capable of doing.”

It seems as if De Zerbi’s arrival has given Spurs a much-needed boost in energy.

Hence, it is baffling why they couldn’t do this appointment earlier, instead of bringing in Igor Tudor, who has no experience managing in the Premier League?

It sums up the mess that this club has gotten itself into.

Looking at the table, the two back-to-back wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa mean that Spurs are now one point clear of the relegation zone.

If Nottingham Forest gets a result at Chelsea tonight, they will be almost safe from relegation.

But for the Hammers, unless they pull off a miracle against Arsenal on Sunday, it looks increasingly like they will be playing Championship football next season.
