A dramatic and incident-packed Catalunya MotoGP ended with Fabio Di Giannantonio claiming a sensational victory after a race interrupted by two red flags and several major crashes. With Valentino Rossi watching from the VR46 garage, the Italian rider charged past long-time leader Pedro Acosta in the closing laps to seal one of the biggest wins of his MotoGP career.

Di Giannantonio’s triumph was made even more impressive after he was struck by debris during the first race stoppage involving Alex Marquez. Acosta had looked set for victory after dominating much of the race. Still, late pressure from Di Giannantonio, Joan Mir and Fermin Aldeguer saw the KTM rider begin to slip backwards. His race then ended in heartbreak after contact with Ai Ogura at the final corner sent him crashing out. Ogura was later penalised for the collision, while several riders, including Francesco Bagnaia, Mir, Toprak Razgatlioglu, Alex Rins and Jack Miller, were investigated for possible tyre pressure infringements following the race.

VR46 Rider Survives Two Red Flags and Late Drama to Claim Stunning Catalunya Victory

Red Flags and Heavy Crashes Cause Chaos in Barcelona

The opening race was stopped on lap 12 after a frightening accident involving Acosta and Marquez. Acosta suffered a technical problem entering Turn 10, leaving Marquez with nowhere to go as he slammed into the back of the slowing KTM machine at high speed. The impact launched Marquez into the air and immediately brought out the red flag. Marquez was conscious following the crash before being taken to the hospital for further checks.

The chaos continued after the restart when Johann Zarco crashed heavily under braking into Turn 1, collecting Bagnaia and Luca Marini in another terrifying incident. Zarco later received treatment in the medical centre after becoming tangled with Bagnaia’s Ducati in the gravel trap.

There was still more drama to come in the final restart as Raul Fernandez collided with fellow Aprilia rider Jorge Martin at Turn 5. Martin crashed out while running second, marking his fifth fall of the weekend and dealing a major blow to his championship challenge.

Mir and Aldeguer Secure Podium Finishes

As the race finally settled into its closing stages, Di Giannantonio made his decisive move with three laps remaining before Acosta’s eventual crash cleared the way for victory. Mir secured an excellent second-place finish for Honda, while Aldeguer continued his impressive rookie season by completing the podium in third.

An official post-race test will now take place at Barcelona on Monday, marking the final Catalunya test session of MotoGP’s 1000cc era.
