It is race week for the Formula 1 2024 season, and the season opener begins in the Middle East to host The Bahrain Grand Prix. The Bahrain International Circuit has been synonymous on the Formula 1 calendar, having hosted the Bahrain Grand Prix since its inauguration in 2004 and will continue to do so until 2036.
Featuring many technical turns and high-speed straights, Bahrain is not only a test, but also an opportunity for teams and drivers to demonstrate whether their development through winter and pre-season testing has translated into success on track.
Overview of the Bahrain International Circuit
As the very first Formula 1 Grand Prix to be hosted in the Middle East, the Bahrain International Circuit has been the focal point of the sport expanding into new territories. A monumental project was undertaken to construct the facility, which was the first of its kind. As soon as the construction work had been completed, the first race was held on April 4, 2004. Now, Bahrain has become a main fixture on the Formula 1 calendar.

57 Laps, clockwise circuit equalling a staggering 308 kilometres of on-track action. Consisting of 15 turns, featuring four high-speed stretches, three slow-speed corners, three ideal spots for overtaking and three DRS Zones. All of this creates a recipe for thrilling action and nail-biting moments. For over an exhilarating 90 minutes of racing for the Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Bahrain International Circuit has undergone excessive changes, adding more twists and turns to the unpredictability of the dunes of Sakhir. But one noticeable feature is the Bahrain Grand Prix has been converted into a night race. Since 2014, the switch from day to night has not only added a layer of spectacle and challenge but also enhanced the visual appeal for the fans.
Memorable Races around the Bahrain International Circuit
When you think of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first memorable moment people can radiate towards is the titanic battle between both Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg under the floodlights in 2014. Both drivers fighting hammer and tong for the race lead became a concern for Mercedes but a spectacle for the fans. Their duel in the desert was one of many battles that set ablaze the 2014 Formula 1 season.
Another race that stands out is the seasonal opener for the 2021 Formula 1 season. With the iconic battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The young Dutchman showed his prowess to catch the seven-time world champion. However, Max ran wide out of turn 4 and was deemed an illegal overtake and had to relinquish the position and lose the first round to his Mercedes rival.
