Man, this guy is just different!
Sometimes, you look at a player and feel their superiority—not because they win once but twice!
You might be thinking, what are you talking about?!
I’m talking about Jannik Sinner, the number 1 tennis player in the world!
He has risen from a young boy who defeated a game veteran to claim his first ATP Tour win and become a man…
Or rather, the young man! At just 23 years old, he now holds the same number of Grand Slams as Andy Murray!
But it wasn’t as smooth sailing this time as he would have hoped at the Australian Open.
Did Jannik Sinner get lucky?!
Some might argue that the break in the fourth round against Holger Rune (when the net broke and had to be replaced, causing significant delays) gave Jannik a chance to recover despite visibly shaking from exhaustion and illness.
Some may say luck was on his side, while others believe that Jannik’s ability to push through adversity, still firing rockets off his racket, proved why he deserves to be the champion.
Jannik then faced hometown favourite Alex De Minaur.
But let’s be honest, we’ve seen this scenario play out before, like at the ATP Finals, and it’s precisely what everyone expected.
A straight-set win set Sinner up for a clash with an up-and-coming, lively American, Ben Shelton.
It was intense!
Ben had the chance to serve out the first set, but Jannik can put doubt in his opponent’s mind and beat them at their own game. Ben needed more variety on his second serve to even dent Jannik’s armour, but Sinner was too strong.
Winning 3 sets to 1, he set up a showdown between the world No.1 and No.2!
The Final Showdown!
It wasn’t much of a showdown.
Sorry, that might be disrespectful, but let’s be completely honest…
Sascha Zverev is NOT on the same level as Alcaraz and Sinner!
Simple.
Now, is he better and stronger than the rest of the field?
Absolutely!
Was he more consistent than Alcaraz last year?
Absolutely!
But… will he ever win a Grand Slam while both Sinner and Alcaraz are fit and healthy?
Comment below what you think!
And so…
Jannik takes another win, consoling Zverev in the process—showing the true gentleman he is and displaying the highest level of sportsmanship I’ve ever seen!
I even shed a little tear when Jannik deservingly won his second Grand Slam, but watching Zverev break down got me thinking.
How hard must it feel to come so close to winning three Grand Slams, only to be told:
“It ain’t your turn yet!”
How much mental energy does it take to try and pick yourself up after a devastating loss like that?
Maybe I’ll cover the champion’s mindset in my next article…
And it may just feature Zverev’s journey—from that crazy ankle injury to a Grand Slam final!
Till next time,
P.S.
Let us know if you won any games this week—
And how do you plan to change your game for the next one?
