Bezzecchi Makes Fast Start as Conditions Create Tyre Gamble
Jorge Martin produced a sensational late charge to win the 2026 French Grand Prix at Le Mans, hunting down Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi to secure his first grand prix win since 2024 and move to within one point of the MotoGP world championship lead. After completing a dominant Sprint victory on Saturday, Martin once again showcased his race craft on Sunday, recovering from seventh on the opening lap to lead an historic Aprilia 1-2-3 ahead of Bezzecchi and Trackhouse rookie Ai Ogura.
Bezzecchi grabbed the holeshot at the start and initially looked in complete control of the race, while Martin was forced into damage limitation after failing to replicate his lightning Sprint getaway. The cooler conditions at Le Mans created uncertainty over tyre strategy after earlier rain showers left the Bugatti Circuit partially damp. Most riders opted for the hard front tyre used during Saturday’s Sprint, although several riders, including home favourite Fabio Quartararo, gambled on the soft front option.
The result also underlined Aprilia’s growing strength in the 2026 MotoGP season, following Bezzecchi’s earlier success in Brazil, where Aprilia made more history.

Quartararo Thrills Home Crowd Before Ducati Disaster
Quartararo briefly ignited the packed French crowd by moving into second place during the opening laps while running a special livery for his final home appearance with Monster Yamaha. However, the Frenchman soon came under pressure from Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia, with the Ducati rider eventually moving into second on lap seven. At that stage, Bezzecchi, Bagnaia and Acosta had built a comfortable advantage at the front, while Martin was still battling through the pack after starting his recovery from seventh.
The complexion of the race changed dramatically when Bagnaia crashed out of second place with ten laps remaining. The factory Ducati rider had looked poised to challenge Bezzecchi for victory before losing the front and sliding into retirement.

Martin Hunts Down Bezzecchi to Seal Aprilia Masterclass
Martin capitalised instantly, moving into second after dispatching Acosta and reducing the gap to Bezzecchi to just one second with nine laps left. The Aprilia team-mates then engaged in a tense fight for victory, with Martin visibly stronger in the closing stages.
With three laps remaining, Martin finally launched his decisive attack, sweeping past Bezzecchi to claim the lead before pulling clear to complete a perfect Le Mans weekend and secure Aprilia’s first grand prix clean sweep of the season. Ogura completed the all-Aprilia podium after another standout performance for the Trackhouse squad, with the Japanese rookie charging through during the closing laps to secure the first MotoGP podium of his career and underline Aprilia’s dominance around Le Mans.
The race added another dramatic chapter to a season already showing why MotoGP remains one of the most unpredictable series in world motorsport.
