Liverpool’s Injury Crisis Mounts

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has to deal with another injury headache as their key midfielder was forced off midway through against Brentford.

The Dutchman was already without Ryan Gravenberch for the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium as the 23-year-old failed to recover from the ankle injury he picked up against Manchester United.

With Alexis Mac Allister out of form, there is unease about the lack of control in midfield. The midfield lacks structure, and the injury to Curtis Jones further compounds the issue.

With there being no clarity on his return date (via Liverpool.com), Arne Slot will have to make tough decisions when it comes to selecting his midfield when they take on Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup and Aston Villa in the Premier League next weekend.

Could the Liverpool injury crisis dent their hopes of lifting silverware?

Liverpool’s recent performances have been a major talking point, with the Reds picking up just one win in their last 6 outings. Despite registering a comfortable 5-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, Arne Slot and co are under immense criticism over their recent spell of form.

The Reds have looked all over the place, and Slot’s on-field decisions don’t seem to be bearing fruit, as they are conceding more goals than they’re scoring. Despite spending over €400 million, the summer signings are yet to find their footing, which is also a worrying sign.

Defensively, Liverpool have been out of touch, as opponents have been able to spot their weaknesses and capitalise. The decision to field Kerkez hasn’t paid dividends, as he is being outmatched physically, and Virgil Van Dijk’s dip in form isn’t helping either. Arne Slot will look to reassess the backline to improve their defensive record.

Another growing concern is that the summer signings are yet to hit their strides.

Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the club’s record signings, have not hit their top gear, which could be a worrying sign for Slot. While Ekitike and Frimpong have shown their capabilities, they still haven’t hit the ground running.

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool performs going forward, as they could turn things around or succumb to the issues that plague them.
