It is week four of the 2025 College Football season. After the upsets seen last week, this week’s fixture slate could be described as underwhelming. Many of the top-ranked programs are not playing this weekend, and we are in the tail end of the non-conference schedule. This is a relatively quiet week before the action heats up in the coming weeks.
For that, let’s round up the action in Week 4.
What Happened in Week 4 of the 2025 College Football Season?
SE Louisiana @ #3 LSU
The No. 3-ranked LSU Tigers continued their undefeated start to the season with a win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. This was obviously expected. Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier threw for three touchdowns in the simple 56-10 win.
Florida @ #4 Miami
The number four-ranked Miami Hurricanes continued their quest to defeat all Florida teams this season with a game against the Florida Gators. The Gators have been struggling this season (and for the last few seasons), while the Hurricanes again look like ACC and CFP contenders. This is another poor performance from the Gators and their QB, DJ Lagway, who threw for only 61 yards. In the end, the Hurricanes defeated the Gators 26-7.
Oregon State @ #6 Oregon
It was a “Civil War” in Oregon as the No. 6-ranked Oregon Ducks faced the Oregon State Beavers. This is the last season where the Beavers are in the two-team PAC-12, as numerous Mountain West and Conference USA teams are moving to the conference next season. However, this year, the Beavers under former Duke and Texas QB Maalik Murphy are not having a good season. Ducks QB Dante Moore would throw for 305 yards and four touchdowns as Oregon easily beat its state rivals 41-7.
Kent State @ #7 Florida State
The revival of the number seven-ranked Florida State Seminoles continued this week in their game against the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Seminoles had eight rushing touchdowns in their 65-10 win over K-State.
Sam Houston @ #8 Texas
The number eight-ranked Texas Longhorns finished their non-conference schedule for the season against the Sam Houston Bearcats. The Bearcats have only been a Division I program since 2020, and an FBS team since 2023. Their inexperience in these kinds of games was on full show today. This game also saw Arch Manning give the best performance of his season so far, throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns in the Longhorns’ 55-0 win. Next week, the Longhorns’ SEC schedule begins against Florida.
#9 Illinois @ #19 Indiana
In one of the few matchups between two ranked teams, the number nine-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini faced the number 19-ranked Indiana Hoosiers. This was an incredibly one-sided affair. Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza threw five touchdowns and a near-perfect game as Indiana demolished the Fighting Illini 63-10.

There was controversy in the game between the number 11-ranked Oklahoma Sooners and the number 22-ranked Auburn Tigers. Early in the game, a fumble from Isaish Sategna III was recovered by the Tigers in the endzone. However, an official would later take the score of the board. Later, a touchdown score from Sategna was allowed, with TV analysts saying that this should not have happened. These two mistakes essentially cost Auburn the game, as Oklahoma would win 24-17.
Tulane @ #13 Ole Miss
The number 13-ranked Ole Miss Rebels faced one of the strong Group of Five programs in the Tulane Green Wave. This was another strong performance from Rebels backup QB Trinidad Chambliss. He threw for 307 yards in Ole Miss’ 45-10 win.
UAB @ #15 Tennessee
The number 15-ranked Tennessee Volunteers faced the UAB Blazers in a game that was overshadowed by a moment where a Blazers player stamped on the leg of Volunteers kicker Max Gilbert. Away from that, this was another good performance from Tennessee, which recorded a 56-24 win.
#17 Texas Tech @ #16 Utah
In what on paper could have been described as the game of the week, the number 16-ranked Utah Utes faced the number 17-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. The game really kicked off in the fourth quarter, when Texas Tech backup quarterback Will Hammond came into the game. The Red Raiders would score four touchdowns in the final quarter and win the game 34-10 to send a statement to the rest of the Big 12.
Temple @ #18 Georgia Tech
Haynes King and the number 18-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets again showed why they should very much be in consideration for the ACC title in their win over the Temple Owls. This was a standard win for the Yellow Jackets by the score of 45-24.
Georgia State @ #20 Vanderbilt
The number 20-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores made history in their game against the Georgia State Panthers. The Commondores would win this game 70-21. These 70 points are the most that Vanderbilt has scored in a game in 107 years. For those who want to know, the last time this happened was in 1918, when Vandy defeated an unofficial Tennessee Volunteers side (The Commodores recognise this team as the official Tennessee program) 76-0.

The number 21-ranked Michigan Wolverines relied on their run game in their meeting with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Three long rushing touchdowns were enough to seal a 30-27 win over the Cornhuskers.
South Carolina @ #23 Missouri
The number 23-ranked Missouri Tigers faced the South Carolina Gamecocks in what was a very close game. Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers proved why some are considering him to be one of the strongest quarterbacks in college football with a strong performance. However, it would not be enough, as a late touchdown from Tigers running back Jamal Roberts gave Missouri a 29-20 win to remain undefeated.
Purdue @ #24 Notre Dame
The number 24-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to get their first win of the season in their game against the Purdue Boilermakers. This was not an easy win for the Fighting Irish, and if they had faced tougher opponents, they could have easily lost. In the end, Notre Dame recorded a 56-30 win.
Michigan State @ 25 USC
The number 25-ranked USC Trojans faced the Michigan State Spartans in a high-scoring affair between two undefeated teams. On the field, the Trojans were by far the strongest team, but the Spartans did not go down without a fight. In the end, USC secured a 45-31 win over Michigan State.
Honorable Mention
Syracuse @ Clemson
After their defeat to Georgia Tech last week, the Clemson Tigers came into the week unranked. This week, they faced the Syracuse Orange in a game that they needed to win. Despite Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik throwing for 363 yards and three touchdowns, this was nowhere near enough. Syracuse would easily defeat Clemson 34-21, meaning the Tigers (who could have been contenders for the national championship this year) would have a 1-3 record.
So, that was a generally underwhelming Week 4. Next week, conference play kicks off in full strength, with notable games including Penn State facing Oregon and Alabama vs Georgia. The last time these two teams met was one of the best games in recent memory. Could we get the same next week?
