Jose Mourinho’s Roma defeated Feyenoord 1-0 in the final of the Europa Conference League last night. This translates into Roma’s first trophy in fourteen years and Jose Mourinho’s 100% win rate in European finals continues.
The 59-year-old has been a serial winner his whole career and has technically won bigger competitions but this trophy certainly means a lot to him after he was reduced to tears after the final whistle.
Embed from Getty ImagesWinning this trophy sends a message to doubters who have criticised him saying he is ‘finished’ ever since he got sacked by Manchester United. He then signed for Tottenham Hotspur and got sacked days before a League Cup Final with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. So you can understand if he has been feeling the pressure and maybe even suffering from self-doubt. He would not tell you that though but again this is why the Europa Conference trophy means a lot to him. The competition is disrespected as it is but the fact Jose Mourinho has won it and just by looking at his reaction might put more respect on the trophy. It seems like the competition needed the Portuguese manager and vice versa.
After last night ‘The Special One’ is the first manager in history to win all 3 major European competitions.

According to The Football Lovers Jose’s win last night means that he is tied at 5th place with Jock Stein on 26 titles. He is now behind Pep Guardiola (27), Valeriy Lobanovskyi (29), Mircea Lucescu (32) and Sir Alex Ferguson (48). A prestigious table of legendary managers indeed.
‘This remains in the history of Roma, but also mine. I was told only I, Sir Alex Ferguson and Giovanni Trapattoni won trophies in three different decades. It makes me feel a little old, but it’s nice for my career.’
Jose Mourinho, AS Roma manager
