An ACL injury will sideline Lisandro Martinez for the remainder of the season. Their poor form in the league continues to be a huge problem for Manchester United. Martinez, who has established himself as a mainstay in United’s defence, joined from Ajax in 2022.
Lisandro Martinez was ruled out for months with an ACL injury
During Manchester United’s last game with Crystal Palace, the Red Devils suffered a two-goal loss against the Eagles. However, that was the least of the concerns for fans as Lisandro Martinez was stretched off the pitch in tears. The injury occurred when the Argentinian attempted to tackle a Crystal Palace player, causing the defender to slip. Immediately, Lisandro Martinez signalled to the bench he needed to be substituted.
A statement released on X Manchester United said, “Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.”
“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation. Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will support him every step of the way.”
Manchester United continue to struggle in the Premier League
Lisandro Martinez is set to miss a considerable amount of the year through injury. As a result, it has also highlighted how poor United have been this season. United have been beaten seven times at their own ground this season. Old Trafford was renowned for how difficult of a place it can be for opposition teams. However, that perception has changed in the past few years, with away teams tending to get the better of Manchester United.
The club’s strikers have been ineffective, and the main problem is that the Red Devils cannot score enough goals. Joshua Zirkzee hasn’t hit the ground running, and Ramus Hojlund has been injured and is inconsistent. Furthermore, the current formation United play under Reuben Almiron tends to be their undoing, with players unaware of their roles during the play transition.
