Norwich City have already been highly active in the transfer market this season. The club have signed several likely starting players to join the squad. This included a new goalkeeper in Vladan Kovačević, as well as highly rated defensive improvements with the signings of Jakov Medić and Harry Darling.

But the club in yellow looks set to begin bolstering their attacking options by signing the 23-year-old Danish striker Mathias Kvistgaarden. This signing is estimated to cost the Canaries around £6.9 million and is set to be completed soon. Norwich have fended off interest from the likes of Celtic and RC Lens to grab the striker’s signature.

Many Norwich fans are already excited about the signing of Kvistgaarden, but just how could he fit into this Norwich team?

Culture of Danish Players

Since the appointment of their previous head coach, Johannes Hoff Thorup, the club have made several signings from Denmark. So far, this has included Emiliano Marcondes, Anis Ben Slimane and fellow Brøndby graduate Oscar Schwartau.

Even despite the sacking of Thorup and the appointment of Liam Manning, the club continue to have links to Denmark. The club are also targeting Pelle Mattsson from Silkeborg to bolster their midfield options.

For Danish players, Norwich might then seem like an ideal destination to further their careers. Moreover, Kvistgaarden will seek to replicate the move of a certain other legendary striker who made the transition from Brøndby to Norwich. That striker is the prolific Teemu Pukki.

Attacking Changes

After last season’s exploits from Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz in the championship, it seems natural that both players have garnered large interest from some prolific clubs. Sainz scored 18 times in 41 Championship games last season. He has already been receiving bids from top European clubs such as Porto and interest from the likes of Athletic Bilbao.

Josh Sargent has maintained superb goalscoring form since the club’s relegation to the Championship. He has been linked with the likes of Leeds, Wolfsburg and Roma.

It’s not out of the realms of possibility that Norwich hold onto Sargent, who has three years left on his contract. However, the signing of Kvistgaarden looks to be a replacement for at least one of the two attacking starlets.

Will he succeed at Norwich?

Danish football expert Toke Møller Theilade recently detailed in an interview for fansite AlongComeNorwich how Kvistgaarden could succeed in the Championship:

“He has done almost everything Pukki did for Brøndby at least equally as well, just while being younger. The only thing missing for him, and perhaps the reason, together with injuries, he isn’t moving to a bigger club, is that he hasn’t left his mark in European fixtures as Brøndby hasn’t been in a group stage since 2021.”

It would seem like the signing of Kvistgaarden could be a huge coup for Norwich. And the fans can be rightfully excited about how the team might perform in the upcoming championship season.
