Norwich Manager Sacked: Who Will Replace David Wagner?

Liam Manning’s start to life at Norwich has been even more exciting than expected. Norwich City fans had half-expected before the end of last season that the beginning of their transfer window would see some big names leave the club. However, the club has made several prolific signings.

The start of the window saw several moves in the goalkeeper department. The Canaries have signed Dan Grimshaw, Louie Moulden and Vladan Kovačević to play between the posts, with the latter likely being Manning’s first choice for next season. The club also made a couple of defensive signings by bringing in Jakov Medić from Ajax and Harry Darling from Swansea City.

Norwich did see the departure of Borja Sainz to Porto this week; however, they have replaced their attack with prolific Danish goalscorer Mathias Kvistgaarden. Kvistgaarden represents a massive coup for the club, with many clubs of European calibre being interested in the player.

The area of the pitch where Norwich has not signed significantly yet is the midfield. However, with these additions, the club will be well-equipped to improve on its league finish from last season.

Despite sparring for the signature of Kvistgaarden a couple of weeks ago, Norwich and Celtic are supposedly attempting to reach an agreement for South Korean Hyun-Jun Yang.

Yang joined Celtic in the summer of 2023 for around £2 million from Gangwon FC. In his most recent season for the Hoops, he recorded 12 goals and assists in 34 matches. However, with the Celtics’ most recent transfer activity, it looks likely that Yang is surplus to requirements.

Yang has reportedly stated his intention to leave the club. However, Norwich faces competition for the player’s signature. Polish side Legia Warsaw is also interested in the 23-year-old.

Yang won’t be the first player to make the move from Celtic Park to Carrow Road. Names like Gary Hooper will be familiar to fans of both clubs, as well as David Marshall and Dion Dublin. Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah made the move from Norwich in the opposite direction in 2024.

Mirko Topić

According to reports emerging from Portugal, Norwich City appears set to make a move for Serbian international Mirko Topić. Topić, who plays his football currently at F.C. Famalicão, has been a regular starter for the club in their most recent Primeira Liga campaigns.

Norwich has been searching for an alternative in the deeper midfield to support the likes of Jacob Wright and has also been in talks with Pelle Mattson of Silkeborg. However, according to the PinkUn, Norwich are only set to sign one of these midfield options.

If signed, Topić would be their third signing of the window from the Balkans. With Vladan Kovačević originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Jakov Medić from Croatia, Topić will be in good company. Topić, however, would bring senior international experience, with the player likely to increase his appearances beyond the four he has made so far for the Serbian national team.
