Al Hilal will reignite their interest in Luka Modric as the experienced midfielder is expected to be available on a free transfer.

The Croatian was offered a three-year contract by the Saudi club last year. The deal offered was in the region of  €300m (£258m).

The 38-year-old did not pursue the deal offered by the Saudi club further as he was offered a one-year contract extension by Real Madrid which he had accepted.

Luka Modric has made over 22 appearances for Los Blancos this season where he has scored one goal and assisted 5 goals.

According to several reports, Modric will not be offered a new contract by the top brass.

The Croatian international has fallen the pecking order as Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, and Aurelien Tchouameni are chosen ahead of the star midfielder.

Al Hilal are looking to strengthen their midfield department and signing Modric would be icing on the cake as the 38-year-old brings a lot to the table besides his technical skills and tactical intelligence.

The Riyadh-based club is dominating the league as they sit at the top of the table with 53 points (7 points ahead of their rivals Al Nassr).

The Saudi club will be able to snap up Modric on a free transfer however plotting a move for the player can be a herculean task as they will face stiff competition from other Saudi clubs who have also expressed interest in signing the player and Real Madrid could change their transfer posture in the last minute and hand him another contract extension. Therefore it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds.

Modric will represent Croatia at the Euro 2024 and it is understood that he has no plans of hanging up his boots as he believes that he can play into his 40s despite the demands of his position on the field.

The midfielder arrived at Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and since then he has donned the Los Blancos jersey on 510 occasions, scoring 32 goals and registering 82 assists.

With Real Madrid Modric has lifted 23 trophies which include three La Liga titles, two Copa Del Rey crowns, and five Champions League.
