Following the 2-1 defeat at Sunderland, Crystal Palace have gone 11 games without a victory. Manager Oliver Glasner is frustrated with the board’s lack of support.

“I feel we are being abandoned completely,” “I can’t blame any player. They did everything they could and this has been going on for weeks and months now.”

It looks like the end is nigh in terms of his tenure at Selhurst Park.

What has made matters worse is the club’s shock FA Cup exit to Macclesfield, especially after winning the competition last season.

Crystal Palace: Guehi Gone

Losing your captain and most reliable player halfway through a season is never a good sign, especially a day after the Macclesfield defeat.

Guehi was a key player for the Eagles, making 152 appearances for the club.

He was part of a successful back three with Chris Richards and Maxence Lacroix, who kept 11 clean sheets in 19 Premier League games.

The problem with Guehi’s exit is that Palace don’t actually have a suitable replacement for him.

Chadi Riad has missed several games due to an MCL injury in late 2024, followed by an ACL rupture in early 2025.

Daniel Munoz is an option, but his best position is an inverted right-back, who can step into the midfield.

The former Crystal Palace captain was not the only player whose contract expired this summer.

Daichi Kamada, Jefferson Lerma, and Nathanial Clyne are also amongst the players out of contract.

This makes Glasner’s frustration understandable, but at the same time, Palace are having to deal with PSR (Premier League Spending Rules).

This is not ideal if you want to keep your best players.

Wharton, Mateta to Depart In The Summer?

It is highly likely they could even lose Adam Wharton and Jean-Philippe Mateta in the summer.

Manchester United have a huge interest in the England Midfielder, as do Chelsea.

The Red Devils are currently the odds-on favourites to sign Wharton, so let’s see if that deal goes through.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have a particular interest in the French striker.

According to Football365, Unai Emery’s Villa have ‘expressed an interest’ in signing the French international, who is under contract until 2027.

Palace’s asking price is believed to be around £ 35 million.

This is too expensive for a 29-year-old in the final 18 months of his contract.

Juventus are also interested in Mateta.

Reports from David Ornstein also suggest that Juventus enquired about a move for Mateta last week and, as they are ‘not prepared’ to pay Palace’s €40million (£34.7m) asking price.

Villa are the current favourites.

Glasner not getting replacements for these players is the biggest reason for his frustration with the club’s hierarchy.

Moreover, chairman Steve Parish has also said that Glasner is free to leave now, and the club will refuse to pay him due to the comments he made at the press conference.

This is a testing time for the club, which has a busy period, especially in February, when they will play six games in three and a half weeks.

The Austrian is still set to see out his contract in the summer, but one thing is for sure: things are not looking good for Glasner and Palace.
