Arteta Regrets the ‘Painful’ Fulham Loss for Arsenal.

Arteta expresses regret over Arsenal’s ‘agonizing’ loss to Fulham.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has acknowledged that it is a “tough and sad” day for the team as they have suffered their second consecutive loss in the Premier League.

Gunners ended 2023 with a 2-1 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage, following Thursday’s home loss to West Ham.

In west London, Bukayo Saka had given the away team the lead, but Raul Jimenez and Bobby Decordova-Reid were able to change the momentum of the match in favour of the Cottagers.

Arteta stated to BBC Sport:

“Really tough day. A sad day. Three days ago [a 2-0 defeat by West Ham] we played a game we lost that we completely meant to win it. Today was our worst game of the season. With the pace, and the purpose we have in attack and defence, we were second best. We could not dominate and had issues because of that.“

He added, “We didn’t do enough with that [possession]—not enough purpose, speed, or threat. We were sloppy with the ball. It wasn’t good enough.

We didn’t deserve to win. When you have opportunities to go to the top of the league on December 31 and now end up with a really bad feeling, that is football. The lines are really thin.

“If we play like we played in the other 19 games, we will be up there [in the league] at the end of the season. If we play like today, we will be nowhere near. Today was a really difficult day to swallow.“

The third round of the FA Cup is the next game that will take place at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal will play Liverpool.
