Championship Transfer News: Dolan Set for Spain and Norwich Sign Premier League Winner

The start of the Championship season is just over two weeks away. Despite this, there continue to be many transfer stories, rumours and announcements being made. Here are some of the latest pieces of news of transfers in the Championship:

Tyrhys Dolan Set to Make Move Abroad

Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan has been of exceptional interest to many clubs this transfer window. It has been confirmed by many sources that Rovers had made a contract offer to the player, whilst many other clubs in the Championship have offered him similar deals.

However, reports suggest that Dolan could be set to move abroad. FootballLeagueWorld has revealed that amongst the likely suitors of the Old Firm and Bristol City, La Liga club Espanyol are interested in the 23 year-old.

This will be bad news for the variety of English clubs who are looking to sign the player. Despite finishing 14th last season, Espanyol can likely offer more lucrative wages to Dolan. As well as offer an opportunity for the player to play in one of the top European leagues.

Rovers manager Valérien Ismaël has all but confirmed that Dolan’s future was most likely not going to be at Ewood Park. Moreover, this isn’t the first time this window that Dolan has been linked with a move abroad. He was at one point rumoured to be of interest to Turkish side Samsunspor. But there could be a few more twists to this tale before a conclusion is reached on where Dolan will be playing.

Jeffrey Schlupp is the Answer for Norwich

Norwich City’s grand business in this transfer window continues. The club have acted swiftly to gain the signature of Jeffrey Schlupp after his release from Crystal Palace. The 32 year-old has signed a one year deal for the Norfolk club.

The signing of Schlupp represents a huge coup for Norwich. Although maybe past his peak, the young Norwich side have been in need of experience. Schlupp has 12 seasons worth of Premier League experience with Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Most notably, Schlupp made great contributions to the Leicester side that won the title in 2016. Schlupp became a fan favourite at Selhurst also, with sparkling individual performances and versatility. Most recently, Schlupp helped Celtic to lift the Scottish Premiership whilst on a short loan spell there.

Amongst this and the many other signings, there’s a lot for Norwich fans to get excited about. Even more so is the unlikely prospect of Josh Sargent staying. The American striker snubbed Wolfsburg after their heavy pursuit of his signature. Could Sargent be staying at Carrow Road?

Ashley Phillips Re-Signs for Potters

Stoke City made the sensible decision of re-signing Ashley Phillips back on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Phillips was one of the outstanding performers for Stoke in what was a rather drab previous season for the Potters. The club finished 18th in the league, and without Philips’ defensive efforts, would likely have finished lower. The 20 year-old made 39 appearances across all competitions for Stoke.

Stoke will be looking to make an improvement on previous seasons, with Mark Robins entering his first full season as manager of the club. Phillips re-signing is a smart and rational decision, as the centre-back is more than capable at Championship level.
