With the January transfer window open and many clubs entering the market for new players, we look at five players who could be on the move in January.
Ivan Toney
Clubs linked to; Arsenal and Chelsea
Following his ban for breaching betting rules Brentford forward Ivan Toney could be set for a January move to two of the biggest teams in the Premier League linked to the striker.
Before his ban, Toney scored a remarkable 20 goals in the 2022/23 season and was instrumental in helping the Bees finish 9th in the league.

With Arsenal fans demanding a more clinical striker than Gabriel Jesus who has scored three goals in fifteen games, it could force the board’s hand to splash out on Toney. However, with Brentford struggling with injuries to their strikers it could take a large bid to persuade the Bees to sell.
Kalvin Phillips
Clubs linked to; Juventus and Newcastle
After signing for Manchester City in the summer of 2022 it was suspected that he would be fighting for his place in the team alongside Rodri and the pair would rotate depending on the opponent and circumstance. However, with Rodri being in such imperious form for the Citizens. Phillips has only played 89 minutes in the Premier League for the Champions League Winners.

Juventus are also interested in the Englishmen but their financial situation makes the chances of the transfer happening a lot lower.
Jordan Henderson
Clubs linked to; Ajax and Newcastle
It’s only been six months since Jordan Henderson made the move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq and it already seems the Englishmen were to seek a move elsewhere. Henderson who has been capped 81 times by England is already attracting a huge amount of interest with several big teams in Europe keeping an eye on the situation.
With rumours suggesting Henderson is close to terminating his contract in the Saudi club Ajax has emerged as the frontrunners for the Englishmen’s signature.
With Ajax struggling with a leadership figure in midfield, it would make Henderson their perfect signing. With a Champions League Winners medal and a Premier League Winners medal, Henderson would make the ideal candidate for the Dutch side. Having mentioned their midfield struggles this season already Newcastle are also circling the Englishmen.
Hugo Ekitike
Clubs linked to; West Ham, Wolves and Eintracht Frankfurt
Hugo Ekitike was seen as a young and upcoming prospect in European football and it’s why French side Paris Saint-German spent a reported £34 million on the striker. However, competing with Kylian Mbappé is no easy feat and the youngster has found himself spending more time on the bench than playing. With PSG buying Randal Kolo Muani in the summer it seems Ekitike’s days are PSG are numbered.
German side Frankfurt were linked to the Frenchman in the summer and couldn’t reach an agreement with PSG. Wolves are looking for a young striker and are rumoured to offer PSG a loan with an option to buy. West Ham is also interested in Ekitike as a reliable and young goal scorer to reinforce their attack.
Amadou Onana
Clubs linked to; Manchester United and Arsenal
The Everton midfielder has been crucial for the Toffees this season helping them to 17th in the Premier League. This has also coincided with Everton receiving a ten-point deduction this season by the Premier League. Onana was also subjected to a move in the summer but Everton’s price tag threw off any potential buyers.
Manchester United are one side interested in Onana as the 22-year-old is seen as a young and upcoming talent and is seen as Manchester United’s long-term solution to replacing Casemiro.
Arsenal are also interested in the Belgian as their depth in midfield isn’t as strong as their rivals with Thomas Partey struggling with reoccurring injuries, as well as Jorginho and Mohammed Elneny at the back of their careers now could be the time for the Gunners to refresh and invest into a young prospect.
