The news of the injury sparked speculations of Barcelona looking to sign a possible replacement in the upcoming transfer window. Xavi opened up about the situation in a recent press conference.

“Substituting Gavi? There is nothing to announce. We will speak with Deco to see what we can do,” Xavi told reporters during his press conference to preview Saturday’s clash with Rayo Vallecano.

“I am in contact with the president and with Deco on a daily basis. We will announce what we deem appropriate. They know my position and I know theirs and from there, it is about finding a consensus.

“Evidently we are losing a footballer for the whole season, and we will see what we can do and we will see if we can bring someone in.”

Deco earlier on had said that Barcelona would evaluate all possible options before plotting a move in the January transfer window.

It will be interesting to see who the club snaps up to replace Gavi for the rest of the season.

Apart from Gavi’s injury concern Barcelona is in the midst of a confusing situation that revolves around Victor Roque, the 18-year-old who has agreed on a move to Camp Nou from Athletico Paranaense.

The Spanish giants are in a tough spot as they are unclear whether he will arrive in the summer transfer window or the winter transfer window.

Barcelona’s financial problems could prevent them from signing the Brazilian in January, but it has already been confirmed that he will move in one of the next two transfer windows.

“This is not the time to talk about the market, honestly. We have Roque, more footballers that we watch, but tomorrow there is Rayo, then Porto, then Girona,” Xavi said when asked about the teenager.

Barcelona will resume their La Liga campaign today and they will take on Rayo Vallecano in a fixture that they will have to win in order to keep up the pressure on the top 2 sides Girona and Real Madrid. Barcelona’s number one goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been ruled out of the match due to a back issue, which will see the inexperienced Inaki Pena come in for his first appearance of the season.

The Blaugrana will look to avoid any slip-ups in the upcoming matches as dropping any points could give Girona and Real Madrid an added advantage.
