Liverpool teenager Jayden Danns ecstatic after scoring two goals
Netting a brace to open your senior goals account in a top football club like Liverpool cannot be anything short of a dream come true of Jayden Danns.
That was the reaction of Liverpool teenager Jayden Danns after helping the Reds to a 3-0 win against Southampton in the 4th round of the Emirates FA Cup on Wednesday night.
The academy product called it “the best day of my life” after scoring twice off the bench for the Reds to set up an FA Cup quarterfinal tie with Manchester United.
Meanwhile, he was not the only one as there was also a dream debut for his fellow 18-year-old Lewis Koumas. He opened the scoring at Anfield when he collected Bobby Clark’s pass and found the bottom corner with a shot that deflected off Saints captain Jack Stephens a minute before the break.
Coincidentally, the remaining goals of the encounter came through Jayden Danns, who replaced Koumas in the second half. He ran on to Harvey Elliott’s pass to score with a lovely, dinked finish in front of the Kop.
He only needed two minutes to register as he thumped the ball home after Southampton goalkeeper Joe Lumley parried Conor Bradley’s shot into his path.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Jayden Danns said he could not be happier, saying,” It is the best day of my life.”
Having watched Liverpool since he was a young boy and then scoring at the Kop End is more than a dream.
Liverpool has many first-team players on the treatment table due to injury. Jurgen Klopp, who will be departing at the end of the season. He named six players aged 21 or younger in his starting XI as he did for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
He is delighted that the youngsters did not let him down.
The Saints’ Staggering Missed Chances
Southampton would blame themselves for not converting many chances in the first half. They could have at least been two goals up before Liverpool’s opener but having failed to make them count.
Liverpool made them pay when Koumas netted late in the half.
The visitors again failed to make their chances count in the second period but remained profligate in front of goal.
Danns made them this time on his third Liverpool appearance after debuting against Luton last week with two goals to take the red to their 28th F.A. Cup quarterfinals.
A dream come true Danns
Danns further explained that having had a couple of opportunities in the Carabao Cup final. Had a couple of opportunities to score; he came into the Southampton tie thinking of burying the next one.
“I couldn’t describe it [what it feels like to celebrate in front of the Kop]. It is a dream come true. The first thing I thought was to slide on my knees. It was an unbelievable experience,” he added.
This win and Carabao Cup success allow Liverpool to win a quadruple. At least they will have to defeat Manchester United in a mouth-watering meeting at Old Trafford in the last eight to continue the push in Klopp’s final season.
