Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final between Liverpool and Newcastle raises an intriguing possibility. Adding Alexander Isak to the Reds would give this Arne Slot side an incredible boost. Too often, the LFC attack lacks quality, outside of Mo Salah. Transfer rumors are always a hot topic in football. Where the Swede plays for the 2025-2026 campaign continues to fuel speculation.

Successful Season Missing Important Element

Anfield hosts one of the better, in-form teams in the world right now for domestic league play. Liverpool is in command of the Premier League. Barring a major, unforeseen miracle, Arsenal does not stand a chance of catching up.

The issues in the final third are apparent, however. Their latest Champions League exit was arguably due to their lack of a strong centre-forward presence. More importantly, Slot must have a reliable, consistent goal-scoring option for when Salah isn’t entirely on.

This brings us to the idea of adding Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old has 19 EPL goals and 22 total across all competitions. He doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. Some may say Viktor Gyökeres or Erling Haaland, but the Magpie striker has a case for best player up top.

Isak, furthermore, appears healthy after suffering a minor groin injury setback. In something of a showcase on Sunday, the Carabao Cup could be something of an audition for his new prospective team.

Consensus Surrounding Adding Alexander Isak

Speaking on Sky Sport’s Saturday Social show, the panel discussed what adding Alexander Isak would mean to Liverpool.

While acknowledging the current lack of production up top, they claimed:

If you plugged Isak into Liverpool’s team, they’d be unstoppable. That would be the best attack in the world.

And it’s hard to argue against that. Having a true striker solves a lot of issues. Spacing becomes easier. Other teammates can also better judge their runs. Midfielders and defenders also know there’s an outlet or someone to dump the ball to as a big target.

More importantly, his ability to finish would allow Salah not to feel the need to play every match with a goal or an assist. It would be less of a necessity. This, moreover, would take pressure off the Egyptian player. Arne Slot would have a more balanced team. It wouldn’t always need the winger’s heroics for a result.

His Transfer To Anfield Would Immediately Help

Converting a few more chances early in games would allow the play to unfold differently. Instead of playing from behind and needing to catch up, Liverpool could play more comfortably with a lead. This would force opponents to chase and get out of shape. The result would be a formidable counterattack from the Reds, something they have become excellent at.

Unfortunately for the Liverpool fanbase, this is not their current reality. The upcoming Carabao Cup Final will provide an illustration of what their side is missing. Newcastle attempts to win their first trophy in over 50 years. Their man up top may be fighting against his future team on Sunday.

LFC and Arne Slot, on the other hand, will have the chance to see just how fitting potentially adding Alexander Isak would be for their side.
