Tyson Fury is the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Who could have imagined? Nobody but Tyson and all his most intimate acquaintances. From the time he was an 18-year-old heavyweight pup, a special few have touted him as the future heavyweight kingpin. The future is now. Tyson Fury is here. The belts are all wrapped around his waist. Wladimir Klitschko is a memory, and for the first time in years, boxing has something big to look forward to.

For all its accolades, charisma is not everything. It has to be paired with something substantial, in order to mean anything extraordinary. Everyone doubted Tyson Fury. Almost nobody was willing to entertain the possibility of what has transpired. Even his biggest admirers had reservations. Eleven long and mostly tedious years had convinced them that nobody was enough for Klitschko.

The cold logic of foregone conclusions had reigned for years, and no one could doubt its inevitable pattern. To contradict The Steel Hammer was an effort in futility. This man had, pretty or not, found a way to bludgeon over sixty opponents, but on the 28th of November, one charismatic man shook up the world. His name is Tyson Fury. He was not dynamite, but he was steel, and Wladimir was destined to feel his metal.

It was not braggadocio that avoided the power of Klitschko. It was not a cocky grin that made Klitschko’s knees buckle from a left hook. That was substance. On this day at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Tyson Fury proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that he has substance.

A batman suit does not make him. Batman would be something less without Tyson Fury, and we are all more because we got to see the upset of the status quo.

Thank you! Wladimir and Tyson, for giving substance the chance to shine.

We have all seen reality, and this kind of thing is the only reason we still believe in it. Fans should commend you both. Whatever may be said, reality has a new color to it. We can only guess where it will lead.
