In a recent interview with Sky Sports, current IBO, IBF, WBO, and WBA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua opened up about his feelings on the Deontay Wilder versus Tyson Fury clash. “That is why I know the strategy is for him to fight Fury after a three-year layoff. He’s got a good chance of beating him. It will boost his profile, so when he comes back to the negotiating table he will have a better leg to stand on.”
The WBC Champion Deontay Wilder is set to make his 8th defense against former Lineal Champion Tyson Fury on November 17 however, the contracts have yet to be finalized. If successful, Wilder and Joshua could meet at Wembley Stadium in April and the winner would be crowned the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. A title that hasn’t been held since Lennox Lewis in 1999, almost 20 years.
Anthony Joshua also discussed Tyson Fury’s interest in fighting Wilder. “Tyson Fury’s strategy is to put some money in the bank after a three-year layoff,” Joshua said. “He’ll continue talking rubbish, as he does. In the long run, thunder strikes and it continues to strike.” Tyson Fury is on the comeback from the longest layoff of his career following issues with drug abuse, depression, and PEDs.
