Frank Martin Confident of beating gervonta davis

Frank Martin on Gervonta Davis

One of Gervonta Davis’ main rivals, Frank Martin believes he would have no trouble getting the victory over ‘Tank’ in a future fight.

Martin, a prospect with an undefeated record of 17-0, has yet to mix it with some of the best boxers at 135 lbs but is certain he has the ability to become the first man to defeat Davis.

‘The Ghost’ last fought in December 2022 against the formerly unbeaten Michel Rivera and captured a 12-round unanimous decision at the Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas.

Since then Martin has been paying close attention to Gervonta Davis who recently knocked out the highly talented, young superstar, Ryan Garcia in the 7th round. And the Detroit native was not shocked the blockbuster bout ended with a knockout.

After all, Davis now possesses a record of 29-0 with 27 knockouts which includes three stoppages in his last three fights. Meanwhile, Garcia is 23-1 with 19 knockouts and is widely regarded as one of the fastest pound-for-pound punchers in the world

“No I wasn’t surprised”, Martin said in an interview with

“I knew somebody was going to get stopped in the fight. I just don’t know who it would have been. But I knew that somebody was going to get stopped. I did an interview prior and said it was going to be a stoppage.”

“I thought he [Gervonta Davis] was going to be the one stopping. But I honestly felt like it could have been either one of them. It was just who landed the big shot first.”

Despite showing immense potential, Martin has not been offered the opportunity to fight a world title. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old believes it is only a matter of time until he battles the best in the lightweight division.

“I’m right there man. Whoever gives me the opportunity. I’m not ducking nobody. There’s no ‘lets get him ready’. I’m ready for them right now. If they want to give me the opportunity, I’m going to show them what I can do. I’m ready for them right now.”

The lightweight division is undoubtedly one of the most talented and is filled with world-class fighters such as Devin Haney, Vasyl Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, Keyshawn Davis, Isaac Cruz and of course, Frank Martin himself.

“There’s a lot of fighters right now that’s good a 135. You can’t really say until the everybody gets in there with each other. Then you can who is the best.”

And when asked about how he would overcome Gervonta Davis, Martin simply stated “I would have frustrated him like he did against Ryan [Garcia] and boxed his head off and let me him come to me.”

Who Will Gervonta Davis fight next?

After such an impressive win over Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis is now ranked as the tenth best pound-for-pound fighter in the world by Ring Magazine. However, this also means he needs to continue stepping up his level of competition.

One option for Davis is the winner of Devin Haney vs Vasyl Lomachenko which is set to take place on May 20th at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. ‘Tank’ holds the WBA (Regular) lightweight strap but could have the chance to capture the rest of the belts and become undisputed.

Another possibility is to face the winner of Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez, scheduled for June 10th at Madison Square Garden, New York with the WBO Super Lightweight Championship on the line. Davis has fought at 140 lbs before, famously stopping Mario Barrios in 2021, and may fancy capturing another belt in a higher weight division.

A third option is a bout with Shakur Stevenson who recently moved up to 135 lbs. Although, this is arguably the fight with the highest risk and least reward. Stevenson does not hold a world title at lightweight and isn’t a PPV star yet. Besides, being regarded as one of the most talented boxers in the world.

Indeed, Frank Martin is unlikely to have a shot at Davis any time soon. Still, if Frank keeps winning in style, a fight against ‘Tank’ in the future is not beyond the realms of possibility.
