India has a tough task ahead of them. The Kiwis will take on India today at VCA stadium in Nagpur. This is the first match of super 10s.
India has never defeated New Zealand in twenty20s. The Black caps have won all the four previous encounters against India. India has no international win against New Zealand from 2012. They won a math in Bangalore.
MSD and co have a tough job in their hands. Good news for them is there is no Brendon McCullum. But there are other key players who will trouble the Indians.
India’s batting is in form but it is in consistence. Middle order needs to fire; form of Suresh Raina is a big concern. Off late form of yuvraj and Dhoni has given a positive sign.
Although they couldn’t finish the warm up game against South Africa but we can hope that will happen in today’s game.
India also needs contribution from Ravindra Jadeja. He is an excellent all rounder. He is contributing with the ball but it will be good if he could contribute with bat too.
India has variety of bowling options. Raina, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can turn their arm over if captain wants them to.
Regular bowlers will be tested against the New Zealand’s batting line up. Aashish Nehra, Ravi Ashwin and young bowlers like Bumrah and Pandya have to bowl well. India should use Pawan Negi in this match because kiwis not seen him bowl more offen.
He will come handy and that may be turning point of the game. Mohd Shami also bowled well in the warm up games. But the question is who should Dhoni drop?
India’s likely squad for today’s game – Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Pawan Negi, Ajinkya Rahane Mohammed Shami.
On the other hand New Zealand will try to find an alternative of their former captain Brendon Mccullam. It will be interesting to see how Kane Williamson will lead this side. This is his first world tournament as a skipper. Like Dhoni he too has a tough job.
The Black caps have the experience in form of Ross Taylor. He is the most senior player in this batting line up. He also has IPL experience to his name.
New Zealand players will be threatened by Ashwin. They will find a solution to play against him. They will see off Nehra and Bumrah, instead of attacking them from the first bowl.
The bowlers will look to get Kohli, Sharma,Dhoni and Yuvi early. This will bring panic to the Indian dressing room. These batsmen are in form and there no batting much batting after this.
The kiwi batsmen need to play last over sensibly because Bumrah, Nehra and Ashwin are too good in last overs.
Overs of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and McClenaghan will be useful for the black caps. The all round show of Corey Anderson will also help New Zealand.
The likely New Zealand squad –
Kane Williamson (captain), Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Luke Ronchi (wicketkeeper), Ross Taylor, Colin Munro, Mitchell Santer, Nathan McCullum, Grant Elliott, Mitchell McClenaghan, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Corey Anderson.
Match begins at 7.30 PM IST it will shown Live on Star Sports channels.
