Real Madrid appointed a familiar manager to replace Zinedine Zidane last month as Carlo Ancelotti returned to the Bernabeu for his second spell in charge of Los Blancos. After failing to defend their domestic title last season and a semi-final defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League, Ancelotti will be expected to deliver some silverware.
It is going to be a new era for the Spanish giants as they will be without Sergio Ramos for the first time in 16 years. The Spaniard is leaving the club after a new contract was not agreed upon between the two parties.
Real Madrid has quickly moved to add a defensive replacement, though. They have brought in Austrian David Alaba who has signed on a free transfer after leaving Bayern Munich. The versatile defender has already shown at Euro 2020 what a great talent he is.
Ancelotti will also have the chance, if he chooses to, to work with a number of Real Madrid players who were out on loan last season, including Gareth Bale, Luka Jovic and Dani Ceballos.
No Real Madrid Players In Spain’s Euro 2020 Squad
Remarkably, not one Real Madrid player was called up to the Spain squad for Euro 2020. It was a big blow for the club as, at these big tournaments, La Roja is usually made up largely of players from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
This is a sign that many of Real Madrid’s Spanish stars are now coming to the back end of their careers. The Spain team now features a number of young players who are spread across Europe. Many of whom could be on Ancelotti’s shortlist this summer.
1964, 2008 and 2012 winners Spain are +850Â in the football betting to prevail at the European Championship for the fourth time. Their progress will be closely followed by everybody at Real Madrid.
Ancelotti The Right Man To Take Club Forward
The Italian boss has one of the best managerial records in world football. He has had success in England, Germany, Spain and Italy. Real Madrid fans will in particular remember what he achieved the last time he was in charge with them, as he led them to Champions League glory in 2014.
Ancelotti spent two years in Madrid between 2013 and 2015 and it proved to be fruitful. His victory in the Champions League final was his third success in the tournament and it ensured he went into the history books as only the second manager to win it three times.Victories followed in the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA World Cup for Real in what was a strong year for the club, particularly in Europe. They also beat Barcelona in the Copa Del Ray final.
In May 2015, Ancelotti opted to part ways with the Spanish club in order to look after his health. He required an operation so he chose to take time out of the game before returning just over 12 months later to join Bayern Munich.
Real fans will feel Ancelotti has unfinished business. If he can rebuild the club and have the same success as he did in his first spell, it will be considered an even bigger achievement this time.
