Kyrie Irving spent his last few seasons with the underachieving Boston Celtics. He ultimately decided to take his creative talents to the Brooklyn Nets. Kyrie grew up in New Jersey so this is something of a homecoming for him. But, a lot of people are calling Kyrie a cancer, a quitter and saying that he is not a leader. Uncle Drew can now come to Brooklyn, ball out without expectations and change the narrative of his career.

The Celtics were full of young talent over the last few seasons. A lot of the players there probably had individual goals, wanted to prove their status in the league, and probably didn’t know what it takes to win big. Kyrie’s decision to move to Brooklyn steamed from those things and also to be closer to his family.

Kyrie helped to lead the Cavaliers win a championship alongside LeBron James in 2016 while hitting one of the greatest shots in finals history. That Kyrie-Cleveland run included 3 straight trips to the NBA Finals. After these experiences, Irving felt he knew what it takes to lead a team to the promise land and decided to request a trade. He wanted to be the man, the undisputed leader and that desire landed him with Boston. The Boston/Kyrie marriage was short lived and Kyrie left after two seasons, leaving him in a bad light not only for Celtics fans but a lot of league fans.

Kyrie now joins the Nets with Kevin Durant, DeAndre Jordan and some other new players to join the culture they building in New York. But Kevin Durant is most likely out for the season with an Achilles injury. This is Kyrie’s chance to show he can lead a team and show he has what it takes. With the new look Nets, Kyrie can showcase his talents in an environment where winning is a priority amongst the players. No hidden agendas, no award chasing, just going out there to hoop and win a championship. Look out for Uncle Drew this seasons !
