Manchester United have had a turbulent couple of years, and no player embodies that more than Marcus Rashford. Rashford was once deemed the club’s saviour, with fans at one point thinking he was the player who would lead the club back to where it once was. He is exiled and can’t get on the bench, so what’s next for him?

Rashford’s best position is left wing, but he can also be a striker. As such, I have picked teams that either need a top left winger or someone who can score goals from the Striker position.

The three leading clubs interested in the 28-year-old are Barcelona, AC Millan, and Borrusia Dortmund. These are all top European teams with significant histories. The issue with all three of these teams is the finances involved with the deal. In the following paragraphs, I discuss all the pros and cons of deals involving these three clubs.

Let’s start with Barcelona, a team that, up until last week, couldn’t register Dani Olmo, a new signing bought for 55 million euros in the summer of 2024. Some people rightly point this out concerning any Rashford deal, as he is on massive wages, which would make their money problems even worse. Rashford would perfectly fit into Hansi Flick’s system at the Neu Camp and would benefit from having an elite striker in the box to cross to.

AC Milian is a team that needs a player to help Loao and Pulisic get goals and assists. The Rashford transfer relies heavily on Okafor leaving the club, which seems unlikely after he failed his medical at RB Leipzig due to an injury problem. As we have seen in the past, Serie A is a league that helps players who were out of form in the Premier League find their form again in a league that is a bit slower and with much less attention on them. This deal would likely only be a loan + option to buy rather than a transfer. This deal doesn’t seem likely as Rashford doesn’t want to go to Millan and would prefer to move to Spain.

Man Utd and Borruasia Dortmund have done many deals over the years. This deal would help Marcus by having him play in the league with top players away from the lame light of the British press, not unlike Serie A. Dortmund needs another attacker to help them climb up the Bundesliga table. They are currently in 10th position below teams such as Mainz 04. He would be expected to be the leading man in the Dortmund team.

There is the scenario where Rashford doesn’t get the move he wants in January due to the abovementioned factors and is forced to stay. He then would either have to fight for his place or not play until the end of the season. This situation isn’t unlikely.

Rashford and United’s history together seems to be ending, and as a United fan, that makes me sad.
