The Ryder Cup is fast approaching and so is the tense drama. It has a history of great moments such as Superb Seve in 1985 and Justin Rose’s mega putt at Medinah. Why would you ever miss the best team event in golf?

The course itself plays long which could suit Team USA but has enough for Team Europe to be quietly confident about as it is quite narrow and the rough is very treacherous.

They will come face to face with a very organised and well-managed USA team. Most of their team were present two years ago when they dominated Team Europe at Whistling Straits.

Luke Donald leads his team to Italy at the Marco Simone Golf and County Club for the 44th version of this prestigious tournament. It will be a tough 4 days for Team Europe even if they do have a superior record on home soil.

You will not be getting your ball easy out of there. There are some huge personalities out on show this week and no more so than Team Europe’s Viktor Hovland. Hovland is in the form of his life winning his last two events(including winning the Fed Ex Cup) and not being outside the top 20 in his last four.

He is currently striking the ball brilliantly and is finding a lot of greens in play. He will be a fierce opponent in any sort of match play. No wonder he is sitting at his joint highest World Ranking of number 3. You would love to be paired with him and not paired against him if you are Team USA.

The first three days will be mixed up with morning and afternoon sessions of fourballs and foursomes and the famous Sunday of the Ryder Cup will be 12 singles matches. Team USA are very interchangeable with their pairs and already have all of their 12 players selected.

Europe on the other hand are usually very late with their selections and only has 4 players confirmed so far. That leaves a very interesting weekend or so of golf as 1 one more person can be selected both off the European points list and the World Points list- (either Matt Fitzpatrick or Tommy Fleetwood).

Then there will be 6 hard wildcard picks from Luke Donald.

In just under a month’s time we will be at the greatest team event in golf where undoubtedly legacies will be made and a new hero will etch their name in the Ryder Cup history books.
