Chelsea Badge

According to various reports, Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will leave the club by the end of the season.

The 39-year-old’s contract will run out by the end of the season and with there being no talks of a contract extension, Silva’s departure seems imminent.

The Brazilian international joined Chelsea in the year 2020 following his departure from Paris Saint Germain.

The defender was quick to establish his presence in the team and played a pivotal role in helping Chelsea secure the 2021 UEFA Champions League title.

Under Mauricio Pochettino Thiago Silva has been a regular starter for the team, playing every minute of his side’s Premier League campaign prior to the international pause.

According to Football Insider, it is likely that Silva will be ending his stay at Chelsea at the close of the current season.

The report claims that Chelsea’s hierarchy feels that the current team will be able to evolve without the Brazilian’s presence. Chelsea has a lot of options when it comes to fielding a centre-back for the team. Axel Diesel, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and England international Levi Colwill can be pressed into service.

The Blues are also ready to offload Thiago Silva given the financial burden posed by his salary. The 39-year-old earns a whooping £110,000 per week at Stamford Bridge after signing fresh terms in February.

When questioned about his future plans, Silva stays silent in the presence of the media however it is understood that Silva- in the past- has arranged plans to finish his career with Brazilian outfit Fluminese, who the 39-year-old left in 2008 to make his European switch to AC Milan.

It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out as a move away from Stamford Bridge could be on the cards for Thiago Silva.

Chelsea have regained their form as they have secured victories against Fulham and Burnley in the Premier League. The Blues wanted to continue their dazzling form when they locked horns with Arsenal in a high-voltage match on Saturday.

The Blues were dominating the first half of the game as goals from Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk got them closer to clinching a victory however the determined gunners fought their way back to the game.

Goals from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard in the second half helped the Gunners grab a point from the game.

The Saturday night outing didn’t meet both the team’s expectations in terms of results. A 2-2 draw is what the clubs had to settle for.

Chelsea will take on Brentford next week while Arsenal will shift their attention to the Champions League where they will take on Sevilla.
