Van de Ven will be out until the new year after sustaining a serious hamstring injury against Chelsea at the start of the month.

Spurs defensive woes are set to deepen further with Eric Dier looking to exit the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

Dier had formed a defensive partnership with Ben Davies against Wolverhampton in their latest Premier League outing. Despite showcasing rich form in their previous encounters, Spurs failed to grab the three points as they succumbed to another defeat at the Molineux stadium. Tottenham have registered two defeats in a row for the first time this season (one against Chelsea and one against Spurs).

Cristian Romero’s suspension adds to their defensive problems as it limits the options of central defenders that can be deployed for their upcoming matches. The situation has pushed Tottenham to scout for defenders who they can sign in the upcoming transfer window.

One of the defenders they are closely looking at is Atalanta BC defender Giorgio Scalvini.

The central defender was 17 when he first appeared in La Dea’s first team, and he has been a mainstay in the side ever since.

Tottenham Hotspur could have signed Scalvini instead of Van De Ven however a move for Scalvini failed to materialise as they were priced out of a move for the youngster, according to Romano.

“I heard, last summer, Tottenham were considering a move, he was one of the secret players that they had in the list, but they decided to go for something different because Atalanta were asking crazy money for Scalvini.” Romano revealed on KICK.

Scalvini excels as a centre-back with a strong defensive posture, showcasing exceptional tackling skills alongside impressive passing technique. The 19-year-old’s talent and his multitudinous ability have prompted Atlanta to slap a big transfer fee on the player.

It will be interesting to see whether a move for Scalvini materialises as Tottenham will have to shell out a huge transfer fee to land the player.
