The West Indies tour findings Wriddhiman Saha proved his worth after scoring a brilliant century in the third test at St. Lucia last month, where he helped India registered a thumping win over the West Indies. He along with Ravichandran Ashwin rescued India with a stand of 213 runs between both of them.
Saha made his debut Test hundred and he was satisfied with his performance which helped him get rid of the concern at the back of his mind about his replacement. He said that the knock helped him in a way and although it’s not a turning point in his career but it surely helped him get rid of the feeling that if he doesn’t get a big score he would be replaced by a new player. So it was moreover a satisfying knock and he was happy that it contributed to the team winning cause.
“I am a wicket keeper batsman and my job is to constantly deliver with the bat as i am busy keeping wickets too, so this innings helped me grooved in. I am full of confidence now and i would like to carry the same momentum in the upcoming matches” he explained the Indian Express in an interview.
Wriddhiman Saha is with Indian team for a long time now but due to the presence of majestic MSD he had been out of the playing eleven for a long time. This time as MSD was rested he got the chance and he made merry with it. In the entire series Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted ahead of him but that didn’t matter as he concentrated on his performance which paid off for him.
“I am personally thankful to head coach Anil Kumble and Indian skipper Virat Kohli for boosting my performance when I was not performing. Both of them kept him saying that a big inning is just around the corner and all the team mates very happy after the knock at St. Lucia. At the same time it is also important to not get carried away with the short lived success,” he added.
Talking more about the newly appointed coach Anil Kumble he said, “He is a very calm customer, he understands you well and is a very much a hands-on coach.”
“He has been a great performer for India as well and he also carries the much needful experience. While communication has been an issue with the foreign coaches sometimes, this is not a case at all with him. He creates a comfort zone for the players”, Saha praised Kumble while talking to the media.
When asked about the comparison of two greats Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble he added that it would be unfair to compare the two legends as they were performing altogether different roles while serving for the country.
