Yorkshire County Cricket Club has announced Darren Gough as their new Director of Cricket. The former England fast bowler’s appointment was confirmed after Martin Moxon was axed from the role last Friday.

Gough, 51, was one of Yorkshire’s finest bowlers. He took 855 First-Class wickets for the county. club. He also played for Essex from 2004 to 2007. he also took 465 wickets at the international level, with 229 of them in Tests.

“We need to rebuild a culture and make Yorkshire a better, more inclusive place,” he said.

“That’s what I see as the vision for the club at this moment in time.”

Given the fact that Yorkshire Carnegie’s first team is without a trophy in seven years, Gough may see that as one of the targets for the club to achieve in the 2022 season.

Gough is set to meet up with Chairman Lord Patel on Wednesday to discuss and map out the future of the club.

Another decision for the former Yorkshire pacer to make is: who to appoint as the Firat Team Coach.

A potential candidate is Essex’s, Anthony McGrath, who has been with the club for more than four and a half years.

The Eagles won the County Championship Division One Title in 2017 and 2019 under his tenure. They also won the T20 Vitality Blast in 2019.

Given the fact that Lord Patel is also still relatively new to his role, it will be interesting to see how his partnership with Gough will cope with the next couple of years.

Will Gough’s tenure at Headingley bring success to Yorkshire County Cricket Club?
